How we work
At SU Legal, we approach fees differently.
From your initial consultation, our focus is on giving you clarity, not uncertainty. You will meet directly with the lawyer who will work on your matter. We take the time to understand your situation, explain how the law applies, and outline your options in a way that is practical and easy to follow.
You will receive a clear explanation of the likely scope of work, how costs are structured, and what steps are involved moving forward. Importantly, we do not charge uplift fees or “care and consideration” loading on top of our fees unless this is clearly discussed and agreed with you in advance.
Some firms build additional margins into their billing without transparency. We do not.
Our approach is straight forward: clear advice, clear pricing, and no surprises.
Fixed fees
Where possible, we offer fixed fee services to provide certainty around cost.
This is particularly useful for defined stages of a matter, including: initial advice and strategy; or divorce applications; or already agreed Consent Orders; or attendance at a mediation. A fixed fee means you know the cost upfront before any work begins.
Where fixed fees are not appropriate due to the nature of the matter, we will explain how costs are structured and provide guidance so you can make informed decisions.
Our focus is not simply on cost, it is on value, outcomes, clarity, and control.
For a fixed fee of $450 inc GST for an initial consultation, you get direct access to straight forward, clear and resolution focused advice about your options, and practical next steps you can act on immediately. Most people walk out knowing exactly what comes next. That's the point. We don't waste your time or pretend there's value in vague generalities. You're dealing with something serious, and you deserve someone who cuts through the noise and gets straight to the point.
At SU Legal, we believe your first meeting should deliver real value, not a sales pitch. You'll meet the family lawyer who'll actually work on your case, they'll walk you through the law as it applies to your situation, discuss the factors that matter most to you, and leave you with a clear roadmap tailored to your circumstances.
Alternative payment arrangements and JustFund
If you would prefer to pay your legal fees at the end of your matter, have unexpected fees or expenses to meet or are otherwise concerned about your ability to pay our fees, there may be options to assist you. Our firm has partnered with JustFund.
JustFund provides funding options to individuals in their family law matters. Where eligible, JustFund can provide financial assistance in the form of a line of credit to pay legal fees and related costs, and repayment is usually required once your property matter reaches settlement.
Further information about whether you would be a suitable candidate for JustFund can be obtained from our office or from the JustFund website at www.justfund.com.au.
As an accredited PartnerPlus family law firm with JustFunds, you may be eligible for a reduced interest rate.
